The Dangers & Toxicity of Mercury

Would you knowingly place a dangerous neurotoxin in your mouth?
Would you want to know if such as a substance had been used in fillings you may already have?
Wouldn’t you want to explore ways to remove such toxins from your body and replace them with harmless yet effective alternatives?
All of the foregoing questions should be asked by anyone who has ever had silver fillings or may need fillings in the future. That’s because silver fillings, or dental amalgams, contain mercury. In fact, silver fillings contain approximately 50 percent elemental mercury. And mercury exposure can cause big health problems.
Study after study has shown that excessive mercury exposure can lead to a wide range of health issue in children and adults; recent research has even drawn a causal connection between exposure to mercury and autism.
A study published in September 2016 from researchers at the University of Georgia and University of Washington revealed that patients with dental mercury amalgam fillings have higher mercury levels present in their body. That is because, over time, silver fillings emit mercury vapors into the body that can cause mood swings, tremors, headaches, insomnia, nervousness, irritability, and weakness. Other more serious ailments associated with methylmercury poisoning include vision problems, cerebral palsy, hearing problems, growth problems, intellectual disability, and microcephaly.
Given these dangers, it is shocking and disappointing that dental amalgam is still so widely used in the U.S.; it is estimated that half of all fillings in the U.S. are made of amalgam. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has consistently failed to take any action to reduce or eliminate the use of mercury in fillings, even while its own research concludes that: “The developing neurological systems in fetuses and young children may be more sensitive to the neurotoxic effects of mercury vapor.”
Of course, dental amalgam is only one way we are exposed to the dangers of mercury. Certain kinds of fish can contain high levels of mercury as coal-fired power plants and other industrial facilities release mercury into the air which then descends into rivers, lakes, and oceans where it is absorbed by sea life.
Additionally, certain types of cosmetics, usually manufactured abroad and sold illegally here, contain dangerous levels of mercury. If a product lists “mercurous chloride,” “calomel,” “mercuric,” “mercurio,” or “mercury,” among its ingredients, the product contains mercury. Don’t buy it, don’t use it, and get rid of it.
